What to record
Record the year, set, subject, card number, parallel or variation, language, grading company, numerical grade and certification number. Photograph the front, back, label, seams and any holder damage.
Category-specific checks
- Surface defects and factory damage can dominate the grade.
- Population growth may change scarcity quickly.
- Parallel name, color and serial numbering must be exact.
How to compare sales
Use completed transactions for the same card, grading company and grade. Separate best-offer listings, auctions, bundled lots, mislabeled cards and outliers. Population data can add context, but it is not a count of cards available for sale.
