Sports Cards

Graded baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, racing, golf and combat-sport cards.

What to record

Record the year, set, subject, card number, parallel or variation, language, grading company, numerical grade and certification number. Photograph the front, back, label, seams and any holder damage.

Category-specific checks

  • Identify the exact set, year, player, card number and variation.
  • Separate rookie status from informal marketplace language.
  • Compare the same grading company and grade whenever possible.

How to compare sales

Use completed transactions for the same card, grading company and grade. Separate best-offer listings, auctions, bundled lots, mislabeled cards and outliers. Population data can add context, but it is not a count of cards available for sale.
