What the official resources establish
- SGC publishes its grading scale.
- SGC provides certification lookup functions and a population report.
- Submission services and fees should be checked directly before sending cards.
When collectors commonly consider this service
Collectors may weigh holder preference, registry participation, market familiarity, turnaround, submission price, card category, desired label information and likely resale venue. No service is automatically best for every card.
Before submitting
Confirm current fees, declared-value rules, accepted card types, packaging requirements, turnaround estimates and return shipping directly with the company. Photograph each card before shipment and retain tracking and insurance documentation.

Buying an SGC slab: checks that matter
SGC certification and the physical holder should be checked together. A valid-looking serial number is a starting point, not a guarantee that the card or holder is genuine.
- Match certification information to the player, issue, year, grade and card number on the slab.
- Compare front and back scans, holder condition, label details and card centering with reliable reference examples.
- For value, compare recent sales of the same card, grade and grading service; a different service may sell differently.
